 nts choose a semester topic—e.g.\, surveillance\, anonymity\, online abu
 se—and learn to design\, conduct\, and evaluate user studies to investig
 ate it. Early lectures provide context and key methods in human factors re
 search. Students work closely with the lecturer to explore their topic in 
 depth. Active engagement beyond class is encouraged\, as topics can be com
 plex and evolving.
